Max Eugene Crider, 64, of Newville, passed away the afternoon of Monday, October 7, 2024 at the UPMC Carlisle Hospital.

He was born on September 22, 1960 in Chambersburg, a son of the late Lester L. and Evelyn L. Martin Crider. He married Berniece K. Hawbaker on January 5, 2002.

Max was a faithful member of the Mowersville Brethren in Christ Church, where he served on the board, and was a Sunday School teacher and song leader. He was the owner and operator of Specialty Paints & Coatings, Benjamin Moore Paint Store, and BMC Storage Units. Max enjoyed watching and playing baseball, and was an avid hunter. 

In addition to his wife of 22 years, Berniece, he is survived by two daughters, Kimberly K. (Bryan) Maun of Greencastle and Lorie A. (Thomas) Sheetz of Shippensburg; five grandchildren, Zachary Davis, Morgann Davis, Ayla Maun, Emmalei Maun, and Olivia Maun; eight siblings, Glenn (Esther) Crider of Shippensburg, Lorene (Sanford) Hege of Chambersburg, Ray (Martha) Crider of Shippensburg, Joanne (Dwight) Martin of Shippensburg, Larry (Kelly) Crider of Shippensburg, Joyce (Thomas) Varner of Shippensburg, Wanita (Keith) Snyder of Myerstown, and Barbara (Jeryl) Diller of Upper Strasburg; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Debra Hege; and three brothers-in-law, Philip Hege, Larry Diller, and Eldon Diller. 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Mowersville Brethren in Christ Church with Rev. David S. Halteman officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. and one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church.
