Mary E. Shultz, 95, a resident of Chambers Pointe at Menno Haven departed this life on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
She was born on January 17, 1928, in Newburg, a daughter of the late Ezra and Carrie (Hock) Bert.
Early in life, Mary worked for the family of the late George H. Stewart, Sr., as a housekeeper and live-in nanny. She then became employed as an inspector at the former Pet-Ritz company for twenty-five years, retiring in 1993. After retiring, Mary worked in housekeeping at Camp Joy-El in Greencastle.
Mary was a long-time member of the Open Door Church, Chambersburg and the Ladies Auxiliary at the Hagerstown Rescue Mission. A long-time resident at Menno Haven, she volunteered there for many years. Mary was very musically inclined. She played the piano and organ and sang with the Joy Chorale and in the Open Door Church choir. Mary liked taking walks, gardening, and flowers. She and her late husband traveled extensively to most of the fifty states, Bermuda, the Holy Land, and Germany.
Mary is survived by a brother, Alvin Bert of Statesville, NC; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn L. Shultz, who died in June of 1990; five sisters, Pauline C. Mowery, Martha Veride, Naomi Reese, Annie Grove, and Grace Nye; and three brothers, Arthur, David, and James Bert.
Her celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the Open Door Church, Chambersburg. Pastor Mike Sanders will officiate. Mary will be laid to rest alongside her late husband in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville, at 2:30 p.m. There will be no public viewing, however a visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday morning at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund or the Open Door Church.
