Mary D. Rineard, 95, of Shippensburg, PA died Friday, October 2, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sunday, March 14, 1920 in Doylesburg, PA. Mary was a daughter of the late Alonza and Clara Sharpe Doyle.
She worked in the auditor’s office at the former Penn Harris Hotel in Harrisburg, PA. Mary was the first woman to fly solo at the Gettysburg School of Aeronautics in 1944. She loved sports; especially Penn State Football; and she was a loyal friend and neighbor.
Mary was the heart of her family. She filled their lives with love and faith. Whether it was prayer, a smile, or a home cooked meal; Mary made everything better.
She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Shippensburg and their Joy Bearers Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth T. Rineard, Jr. who died December 4, 2001. They met and were married by The Rev. J. Elmer Leas at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Harrisburg, PA. They were married 54 years.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Karen A. Rineard of Carlisle, and Barbara A. (Mrs. Marlin) Hoover of Newburg; one granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Bakner; a great grandson, Witten Bakner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents Mary was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in Memorial Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Eric Anderson. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at church.
