Mary Johnston

June 15, 1935 — February 28, 2018

Mary Elizabeth Johnston, 82, of Shippensburg, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Shippensburg Health Care Center.

Born Saturday, June 15, 1935 in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Dana F. and Myrtle B. Dotterer Porter.

Mary was a member of the former Wesleyan Methodist Church, Shippensburg, and the First Wesleyan Church, Walnut Bottom where she devoted her life to service in the church beginning in 1958. Her faithful service was primarily teaching Sunday School, and working with various children’s programs.

Mary was a blessing to her family and all that knew her.

She is survived by one daughter, Debra A. (husband Stephen) Black, Newburg; one son, William S. (wife Tammy) Johnston, Jr., Shippensburg; two grandchildren, Jennefer L. Neil, and Scott W. Johnston; three great grandchildren, Alexis A. and Allee L. Neil, and Kindred Holbrook Johnston, two sisters, Dorothy Barnes, Fayetteville, and Erna Campbell, Mt. Holly Springs, and one brother, Earl Porter, Mt. Holly Springs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Johnston, Sr., who passed away December 30, 1992, two brothers, James Porter and Dana F. Porter, Jr., two sisters, Jean Varner, and Wanda Keck.

Funeral services and burial will be private.
