Mary Jane (Dunlap) Semple, 75, of Shippensburg, passed away the evening of Monday, April 15, 2024 at the WellSpan York Hospital.
She was born on March 28, 1949 in Chambersburg, a daughter of the late Ella B. (Coleman) Dunlap and the late Paul L. Dunlap.
Mary Jane was a 1967 graduate of the Shippensburg Senior High School and member of the Newburg United Methodist Church. She retired from the Army War College in Carlisle.
Mary Jane coached golf with the Special Olympics and was an avid supporter of her son, DJ, in his Special Olympic events. Mary Jane enjoyed attending “teas,” playing bingo, and cards. She loved group outings with her Special Olympics families and former work buddies. Mary Jane also enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska, China, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and National Parks out West with family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Donald D. “DJ” Semple, Jr. of Shippensburg; one sister, Linda F. Ocker and her husband John of Shippensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald D. Semple, Sr., whom passed away on May 1, 2020. Also preceding in death is one sister, Mildred J. Wadel; and one brother, John C. Dunlap.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the Newburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Brophy officiating. Burial will follow in the Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
