Mary Virginia Groce, 80, of Orrstown, passed away peacefully at home Monday, January 20, 2014 surrounded by her family.
She was born September 24, 1933 in Pleasant Hall, Pennsylvania. Mary was a daughter of the late Clyde S. and Ella Claire Beltz Diehl.
She married Frank Kenneth Groce on November 25, 1950. They lived together in Mowersville, Pennsylvania, before relocating to Golden, Colorado in 1969, and retiring to the Sheridan, Wyoming area in 1994. They returned to Orrstown, Pennsylvania in 2002, where they were members of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband Mary is survived by five children: Kenneth L. Groce (Christine) of Midwest City, Oklahoma; Jeffrey L. Groce (Linda) of Sheridan, Wyoming; James L. Groce (Cindy) of Broomfield, Colorado; Samuel L. Groce (Tamela) of Lakewood, Colorado; and Susan M. Wells (Rick) of Belmont, North Carolina. Mary found great joy in her fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mary is also survived by four sisters, Pearl Groce Mellinger and Eleanor Seibert of Shippensburg, Lottie Stouffer and Jane Rine of Orrstown. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother, and she will be dearly missed by all who enjoyed her delicious meals and unparalleled hospitality. She loved knitting, sewing, gardening, canning, and Colorado Rockies baseball.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Chambersburg Fresenius Dialysis Center and Lutheran Home Care and Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 24, 2014 in the Otterbein United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. Cheryl Houser. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery. The viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
