Mary Frances Lambert Dean, 75, of Shippensburg, died on June 25, 2010 at her home.

Born on October 29, 1934, in Fort Wayne, IN, the daughter of the late Boyce Marshall, Sr. and Marion E. McCallum Lambert.

She was a member of the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg, where she was a former church secretary for twenty-six years until her retirement in 1999. She also sang faithfully in its Chancel Choir for many years; and was a member of its Good Samaritan Sunday School Class.

She was a 1952 graduate of South Side High School, Fort Wayne, IN and worked at American Coal & Supply Company, in Fort Wayne, for nine years after graduation. After marrying her husband, William Frederick Dean, Sr., on June 3, 1961, she moved to State College, PA with her new husband who became Assistant Director of Penn State’s Student Union, she worked at Penn State in the College of Earth Sciences, as Secretary to the Division Head of Mineral Industries. She was a member of the Centre Square Dancers Club, and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir.

She was a charter member and past president of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) Old Fort Chapter in Fort Wayne, IN and a former member of Shippensburg University’s (SU) Faculty Wives and Faculty Wives Chorus. Her husband was the first Director of the new Cumberland Union Building at SU, from 1970-73. She was a member of the Shippen Squares Square Dance Club, Shippensburg, the Shippensburg Fort Morris Chapter #3324 of the AARP, and CONTACT Chambersburg from 1988-1993 when it closed, She also served Meals on Wheels in Shippensburg.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years; William “Bill” F. Dean, Sr.; one son: Robert A., and wife Laura (Myers), and grandson Jonathan, of Hanover, PA, many nieces, and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by one son: William F. Dean, Jr., formerly of Chambersburg, PA, who was killed by a drunken driver on April 8, 2005, her parents, and two brothers: Boyce M., Jr., and Robert O. Lambert, both formerly of Fort Wayne, IN. She was the last of her immediate family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg. The Rev. Kevin E. Hughes will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 30, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 at the church and one hour prior to the service on Friday, also at church. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Messiah United Methodist Church at 30 S. Penn St. Shippensburg, PA 17257 or to the American Cancer Society Franklin County Division at 384 Floral Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
