Mary Burkholder

Mary Catherine Burkholder, 90, a resident of the Shippensburg Health Care Center, formerly of Cumberland Highway, Newburg, was called home by her Lord and Savior on the morning of Tuesday, November 12, 2013.

Born on October 22, 1923, in Lurgan Twp., Franklin Co., Mary was a daughter of the late John and Susan Burkhart Burkholder. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family, preceded in death by two brothers, David (in infancy) and Arthur, and her beloved sister and best friend, Ruth.

Energetic and very hard working, Mary lived the majority of her life working alongside her father and brother on the farm. Mary was a quiet and shy person, but those who came to know her soon learned she was a very sweet and compassionate person and that in her they would have a friend for life. Mary fought a long and courageous 15 year battle with cancer.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Chaplain Helen Pinder will officiate. Interment will follow in the Otterbein Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, at the funeral home.
