Mary Jeannette Varner Brown, 92, of Shippensburg, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at Elmcroft Senior Living in Shippensburg.
Born February 12, 1922 in North Newton Township, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Nannie Varner Detwiler Kling.
Mary was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church. She was a life member of the Durff- Kuhn VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she was past president both in Shippensburg.
She retired in 1985 from Amalgamated Clothing, Shippensburg. A highlight in her life was when she traveled to Spain. Early in life, she was an avid walker and provided transportation for friends to their Doctors visits.
Surviving is one son, John Franklin Brown and his wife, Susan of Walnut Bottom, two granddaughters, Bobbi Ann Olson of Newville and Tina Kay Brown of Chambersburg, one grandson, David Fridinger of Shippensburg, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clair Franklin Brown who she married on May 24, 1941 in Hagerstown, MD, one daughter, Sandra Kay “Cindy” Brown and one son, Terry Lee Brown.
The family greatly appreciates the love and care provided to Mary by the staff of Elmcroft Senior Living and of Grane Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. James O. Bolich officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral home.
