Mary M. Bigler, 86, a resident of Manor Care Carlisle, formerly lived on Britton Road, Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Thursday, February 11, 2016.
She was born on December 8, 1929, in LeMasters, a daughter of the late Robert T.R. and Myrtle Marks Bittinger. Mary married George L. Bigler, Sr., on January 11, 1949, in Hagerstown, MD. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2004.
Mary was employed at the former Greif Co., Shippensburg, retiring as a supervisor in 1992.
She attended the Chambersburg First Church of God and was a former member of the Vigilant Hose Co. Ladies Auxiliary. In her free time, Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing. She was very outgoing, a “people person”, who was well known for selflessly providing for others.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Jeannie Brant of Shippensburg; her daughter-in-law, Marcella Bigler, of Newville; five grandchildren, Michelle Eck, George “Buck” Bigler, III, Stephanie Miller, Andrea Ewing, and Heather Hayslett; eleven great grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew, and Jared Eck, Nathaniel and Garrett Bigler, Ryan Brennan and Madison Miller, Alexander and Braidon Ewing, and Nicholas and Chloe Hayslett; one great great grandson, Declan Bigler; one sister, Ruth (Glenn) Western of Clear Spring, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sons, George L. and John Edward Bigler; a granddaughter, Christina Lynn Bigler; five brothers and two sisters.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, February 19, 2016, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor John Cook will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
