Mary Aldridge-Knaub
September 6, 1924 — February 16, 2012
Mary Anna Knaub, 87, formerly of 536 W. 10th St. Waynesboro, passed away on February 16, 2012, at the Shippensburg Health Care Center, where she was a resident for the past two years.
Mary was born on September 6, 1924, in Waynesboro, the only child of the late William L. and Anna Hoover Barncord. Mary was a life-long resident of Waynesboro and attended Waynesboro Area Schools. In November of 1940, she married Mr. Isaac L. Aldridge, Sr., in Cumberland, MD. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1981.
Mary was employed by the Waynesboro Shoe Factory in the early 1960’s. She was also employed by Gus & Ted’s Tavern and retired from the South Mountain Restoration Center in 1985, where she worked in the Dietary Department. After Mary retired, she and her mother drove to California and stayed for one year with her son, the late Kenneth Aldridge and his children.
Mary loved to dance and reading was her favorite pastime. She also enjoyed taking care of her cats and going to Ocean City, MD, with her family. Mary was loved very much and will always be remembered by her family.
She is survived by three sons, Isaac L. Aldridge, Jr. and wife Alice of Waynesboro, William L. Aldridge and wife Tina of Hagerstown, and Charles A. Aldridge and wife Rose of Waynesboro; one daughter, Judith A. Aldridge of Waynesboro, with whom Mary lived for ten years prior to moving to Shippensburg; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; a special great-great granddaughter, Hope Nicole Rogers, who spent many precious days with her great-great grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth L. Aldridge, Sr., who died in 2004 and a grandson, Kenneth L. Aldridge, Jr. who died in 2002.
It was Mary’s request to be cremated. Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012, at the Shippensburg Health Care Center, for family and the wonderful and caring employees of the Health Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg Health Care Center at 121 Walnut Bottom Rd. Shippensburg, PA 17257.
