Martin Reese

Martin J. “Marty” Reese, 87, of Shippensburg, died Thursday, April 2, 2015 at his home.

He was born December 22, 1927 in Shippensburg, Franklin County. Marty was a son of the late Paul and Edna M. Swanger Reese.

Marty was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Newburg and a lifetime member of the Newburg-Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company. He owned and operated Reese’s Plumbing and Heating, Newburg, and jointly owned Park Lanes in Shippensburg, Sunshine Lanes in Waynesboro, and Jim’s Country Market in Chambersburg. Marty was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Marty is survived by his wife Norma Ferrell Reese, ten children, Linell Stabler and her husband Dan of Cogan Station, Joe Reese and his wife Marlene of Shippensburg, Norma Bricker and her husband Norman of Shippensburg, William Reese of Colorado, Jeff Reese and his wife Cindy of Newburg, Curt Reese and his wife Michelle of Pittsburgh, Steve Reese and his wife Mary, and Sue Wickard and her husband Clete all of Newburg, LeAnne Reese-Giles and her husband Cory of Shippensburg, and Kristi Stahlman and her husband Eric of Newburg, two brothers, Cyrus Reese of Waynesboro, and Rev. Richard Reese of Mt. Holly Springs, three sisters, Ruth Meiley of Lancaster, Doris Wilson of Shippensburg, and M. Lucille Shriner of Carlisle, 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Mowery Reese who died in 1960, second wife, Naomi Bert Reese who died in 1970, one sister Anna Mae Rotz, and two brothers, Oliver and Chester “Chet” Reese.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veteran’s Council will be at Otterbein Cemetery.

Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. Cheryl A. Houser and Rev. Richard L. Reese. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg and one hour prior to the services in church Tuesday morning.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 15634 Paxton Run Road, Newburg, PA 17240.
