Marjorie Cover Killian
1916 ~ 2010
Marjorie Cover Killian, 94, passed into eternal rest on Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Menno Haven Nursing Home. Prior to this, she had lived at 450 B Menno Village for twenty years.
Born on May 29, 1916 in Harrisburg, the daughter of the late George Raymond and Elizabeth Mellinger Cover. Marjorie married Mr. Harold E. Killian on June 19, 1941 in Middle Spring. Harold had been employed by the First National Bank of Mercersburg, retiring as a Vice President. He preceded her in death, after 45 years of marriage, on May 17, 1985.
Marjorie received her teaching degree, graduating from Shippensburg University in 1938. She taught school in Steelton, Shippensburg, and Mercersburg, retiring as a kindergarten teacher with the Tuscarora School District.
She was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg, since 1947 and also a member of their Joy Bearers Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynda E. Beam and husband Paul; her son, Jon Edward Killian and wife Mary Ann; four grandchildren, Kevin C. Snow, Jennifer Snow Dreyer and husband Ronald, and Jon Patrick Killian, and Michael Paul Beam; and a great grandson Braiden Paul Beam.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her only brother, Raymond W. Cover.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the Memorial Lutheran Church, followed by a reception. There will be no prior viewing or visitation.
Marjorie’s family requests the omission of flowers and prefers a donation to a favorite charity of one’s choice.
