Marietta Hockersmith

Marietta M. "Mary" Hockersmith, 92, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Home, departed this life on the morning of Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

She was born on September 9, 1929, in Waynesboro, a daughter of the late Ernest L. Potter and Gordon H. and Elsie (Robinson) Baker. Marietta was a 1947 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School.

Marietta worked at many of Shippensburg’s former local garment factories, but spent the better part of her working life waitressing at the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168, Shippensburg. She was a Ladies Auxiliary member of both the V.F.W. and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg.

In her free time Marietta enjoyed crocheting, puzzle books, and reading. She loved animals and enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises. One of her most favorite things to do throughout her life was to travel to Raystown Lake to go camping and boating. Marietta also enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Charles “Ed” Hockersmith and wife Nancy of Newark, DE, Marlene Quick of San Antonio, TX, and John Hockersmith and wife Darlene of Shippensburg; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; her sister, Shirley Gray of Madison, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Marietta was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and one son, Thomas.

Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or funeral service. Interment will also be private.
