Marie C. Hershey, 89, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Friday, September 16, 2022, at UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle Hospital.
She was born on September 8, 1933, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Harry and Frances (Williams) Dooley. Marie married John M. Hershey, Jr., on October 2, 1948, in Walnut Bottom. He preceded her in death on October 3, 2018.
Marie worked as a custodian at Shippensburg University for many years. After retiring from the university, Marie spent eleven years working at the Shippensburg Public Library, which became a job that she truly loved to do. Marie also proudly served on the election board for Southampton Township, Cumberland County, for many years.
She was a longtime member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg, and was very active within the church in her younger years. Marie was also a social member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 and Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168, both of Shippensburg. She enjoyed traveling with John to spend time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many trips to New York City to watch Broadway shows and traveling out west.
Marie is survived by her daughter Donna Rae Shatto and husband Donald of Carlisle; her son, Brian M. Hershey and wife Nancy of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; one step granddaughter; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Marie’s graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, September 26, 2022, in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. Her grandson, Pastor Chris Hershey will officiate. There will be no public viewing. A private, invite only, viewing will be had for Marie’s immediate family and close friends.
