Marguerite H. Jacobs, 89, of Shippensburg, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at Elmcroft of Shippensburg.
Born Tuesday, January 15, 1929 in Milroy, PA. She was the daughter of the late Josiah Lester and Adaleene Treaster Houser.
Margie graduated from Lewistown High School in 1946 and attended the Shippensburg State Teachers College where she received her B.S. Degree in Education in 1950. She worked as a bank teller until she began her teaching career in Boonsboro, MD. In years that followed, she taught shorthand, typing, and Office Practice at Shippensburg Senior High School where she eventually retired from teaching after 30 years. She thoroughly loved educating her students and was rewarded by hearing their successful endeavors after her retirement.
Retirement wasn’t keeping her busy enough, so she began observing student teachers from Shippensburg University and became an Adjunct Professor there for five years.
As a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Margie served as a Sunday School Treasurer, sang in the church choir, Communion Steward, and Bible School Coordinator. She volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital as a messenger, organized the Shippensburg Fair Queen’s Contest, volunteered for the Corn Festival, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a member of various organizations including AARP, Retired Teachers, and Civic Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Jacobs) Dehoff and her husband Steve, Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Adam Dehoffr, David Maisch, and Rachel Dehoff, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, M. David Jacobs, who passed away in 1986, four brothers, Josiah Lester “Jack” Houser, Jr., Robert Charles Houser, Stanley Paul Houser, and James H. Houser, and one sister, Ellen (Houser) Campbell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Christ United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sandy Kraft and Pastor Robert Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
