Margaret Means Loy, 87, of Palm Harbor, FL, formerly Newville, PA, died on December 23, 2010, in Clearwater, FL.

She was born to Chalmers and Elizabeth McCune Means on January 12, 1923 in Newburg, PA. She graduated from Shippensburg High School in 1940 and Shippensburg State Teacher’s College in 1944.

Margaret married Mr. Harold G. Loy in 1943. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2007.

She operated a private kindergarten in Newville from 1952 until 1954. She then taught in the Big Spring School District for 24 years, retiring in 1978. Margaret was a loving mother and skilled teacher, committed to her family and her students. She served as a church organist for over 60 years, first at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg and then the Doubling Gap Church of God, Newville.

Margaret leaves behind two sons, David and his wife Sharon of York and Jeffrey and his wife Holly of Clearwater, FL; four grandchildren, Sarah Yeager and her husband, Richard of Phoenixville, PA; Joshua Loy and his wife, Nicole of Baltimore, MD; Danielle McGauley and her husband, Ryan of Palm Harbor, FL; and Allison Loy of Orlando, FL; brother, Chalmers Means of Otega, NY; sisters Anne Hockersmith of Shippensburg; Janet Taylor of Carlisle; and Barbara Berkley of Berlin, PA; five great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews;

In addition to her husband, he was preceded in death by her son, Richard Means Loy, a brother, Robert Means, and sister, Marjorie Martin.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, January 7, 2011, at the Doubling Gap Church of God, 50 McCrea Road, Newville, PA. 17241. Pastor Donald Snyder will officiate. Margaret will be laid to rest in a private burial at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, prior to the memorial service. Her family will receive friends during a time of fellowship, following the service at church. The Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, has been entrusted with her funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Central Pennsylvania Chapter at 55 South Progress Avenue Harrisburg, PA 17109.
