Mable Esther Crider Lockwood passed peacefully into Heaven on December 13, 2020 at the Orrstown Personal Care Home, where she resided since December of 2017.
Born December 1, 1928, she was the 6th child out of 10 of the late Cyrus and Cora Lininger Crider. She graduated from the Chambersburg Senior High School in the class of 1946. She married Paul K. Lockwood on November 6, 1948. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2000. She was employed by the Stanley Co. for over 43 years, retiring in 1989. She was then employed at Lewrene Interiors and then the Penn Hall Retirement Home.
Mable was an accomplished seamstress, making her own clothes and doing alterations for many others. She was excellent at cooking anything her husband Paul had shot while out hunting. She liked canning food during the summer and fall harvest to provide for her family. She was a faithful member of the Chambersburg First Church of God, where she was treasurer of the Building Fund for over 30 years. She recently attended The Open Door Church for several months, before entering the Personal Care Home in December of 2017.
She is survived by her son, Clark and his wife Carolyn Lockwood; grandson, Jared Lockwood and her four-legged buddy, Jared’s dog, King. Surviving siblings include: brother, Charles (Goldie) Crider of Orrstown, PA; and sister, Ruth Naomi (Jack) Mull of Chambersburg. She is predeceased by brothers: John, Paul, and Glenn Crider as well as sisters: Dorothy Bittinger, Olive Sollenberger, Elsie Fahnestock, and Mary Davis.
She is also survived by extended family-in-laws: Mr. Jack Davis (Mary) Menno Haven; Mamie (Lockwood) Haggerty of Earlville, MD; Edith (Lockwood) Stubbs of Elkton, MD; Mrs. Delores (late Carroll) Lockwood of Warwick, MD; Mrs. Amy (late Walter) Lockwood of Lilburn, GA; Mr. & Mrs. Frederick (Mary Lockwood) Smith of San Antonio, TX; and Mr. & Mrs. Roland (Margaret) Lockwood of Plattsburg, NY. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mable’s family wishes to thank all the staff of the Orrstown Personal Care Home for the wonderful care she received during her stay there.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at The Open Door Church, Chambersburg. Pastor Kimberly Shifler and Pastor Mike Sanders will officiate. There will be viewing held one hour prior to the services from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Mable will be laid to rest in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Those in attendance are asked to observe the recommendations pertaining to reducing the spread of Covid-19; wearing masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing as much as possible.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mable’s name to the Orrstown Personal Care Home, 3329 Orrstown Road, Orrstown, PA 17244.
