Lucinda Edwards

April 29, 1942 — March 14, 2021

Lucinda (Lucy) Campbell Mock Edwards, 78, of Boca Raton, Florida, formerly of Oldwick, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at her home from non-Covid related causes on March 14, 2021.

Born on April 29, 1942 in Washington D.C., she was daughter of the late Alvin McGee Mock and Helen Wallace Beattie Mock. With her father’s work as a civil engineer in the Army, Lucy moved from Fort Belvoir in Virginia to Missouri, Oregon, Washington, and eventually Ohio. Throughout Lucy’s childhood, frequent trips to visit her Grandmother Beattie’s (Ida May Hogue Beattie) farm in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania were grounding and greatly influenced Lucy’s love for rural surroundings.

Lucy was an enthusiastic teacher who taught kindergarten in Ohio and Colorado. Lucy also shared her teaching talents with Sunday school classrooms, her children, and grandchildren. As a grandmother, her greatest joy was sharing her passion for teaching and learning with her granddaughters.

Lucy was a lover of all animals, including cats, dogs, sheep, ducks, and chickens, which extended into her volunteer work with the Seeing Eye of Morristown, New Jersey where Lucy and her family raised seven puppies for the Seeing Eye program.

She was also the family historian and a gifted writer and storyteller. Her favorite pastimes included reading, collecting (teddy bears, roosters, antiques), and music (she was a music minor; she played the organ for her church and sang in the choir). She also had a great love for gardening and bird watching.

Lucy is survived by her husband of 54 years, William V. Edwards III, her daughter, Lana Edwards Santoro, her son, Scott William Edwards, her granddaughters, Carys Edwards, Hadley Edwards, and Brynn Edwards, her son-in-law, Christopher A. Santoro, and daughter-in-law, Heather Icardi Edwards.

A private celebration of life service will be held at the Derry Presbyterian Church, Hershey, Pennsylvania, followed by burial at Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania on March 31, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Seeing Eye of Morristown New Jersey, P.O. Box 375, NJ, 07963-0375, 973-539-4425, info@SeeingEye.org.
