Lois Sowers

March 31, 1925 — February 16, 2013

Lois Braught Sowers, 87, formerly of Shippensburg, passed away on the morning of Saturday, February, 16, 2013, at The Garden Spot Village, New Holland, PA, following a long illness.

Lois was born on March 31, 1925, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Mervin and Blanche Braught. Lois was a graduate of Carlisle High School. On May 2, 1953, Lois married Mr. Charles L. Sowers in Carlisle. He preceded her in death on October 13, 2003.

She worked for the Masland Company in Carlisle before becoming a full time homemaker and raising three children. Lois enjoyed homemaking and traveling to visit family and friends. She was very giving of her time and energy to help friends and neighbors and always willing to help anyone in any way. Lois especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren, attending school and family events. She enjoyed traveling to North Carolina over the years sightseeing and visiting family. She was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg.

Surviving are two sons, Charles R. (Catherine) Sowers of York and Ronald L. (Victoria) Sowers of Rocky Mount, NC; her daughter, Deborah S. (Douglas) Freas of Lititz; four grandchildren, Terry and Eric Freas, both of Lititz, Emily (Justin) Walker of Camp Hill, and Molly Sowers of Pittsburgh; great grandchild, Colin David Walker of Camp Hill; one brother, Richard Braught of Carlisle; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by one brother, Mervin (Midge) Braught and her sister Jean (Raymond) Early.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Kaiser and Rev. Dr. Robert Seibold will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Public visitation will be Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund at 433 South Kinzer Avenue New Holland, PA 17557.
