Lois Loewen

August 19, 1927 — July 23, 2016

Lois Marie Loewen, 88, a resident of Green Ridge Village, Newville, departed this life on the evening of Saturday, July 23, 2016.

She was born on August 19, 1927, in East Hampton, NY, a daughter of the late Randolph and Ruth King Lester and married Rev. John C. Loewen on December 15, 1946, also in East Hampton.

Lois was a homemaker and minister’s wife throughout her life. She served alongside her husband in United Methodist Churches throughout Cumberland, York, and Adams counties for thirty two years. Lois most recently attended the Newville First Church of God. She enjoyed time with her family and church families; going camping, having picnics, or most any kind of church group function. Lois enjoyed knitting and was always willing and eager to teach, but her daughters-in-law were never able to learn how.

She is survived by her husband of almost seventy years, Rev. John C. Loewen; three sons, Bradley J. (Cyndi) Loewen of East Hampton, NY, Craig A. (Cherie) Loewen of Gettysburg, and Mark D. (Rhonda) Loewen of Woolrich, PA; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, three brothers, and one sister.

Her memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Wayne A. Good will officiate. Interment will take place at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, July 29, 2016, in the Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with her son, Rev. Craig A. Loewen, officiating the committal. There will be no public viewing or visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made toward the support of your or another local church.
