Lloyd H. “Ben” Herr, 95, of Shippensburg died Sunday, February 9, 2014 in the Shippensburg Health Care Center.
Born November 29, 1918 in Boonsboro, MD, he was a son of the late Hurley C. and Veda Thomas Herr.
Prior to joining the Army in World War 2, Ben worked for Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, NY. After the war he came to Shippensburg and started H & R Woodworking with his brother Jack, retiring in 1972. Following retirement he sold real estate for Ausherman Brothers Real Estate and sold homes for Keystone Homes.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War 2, having served in the European Theatre. He attained the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was a member of Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 and Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168.
Hobbies he enjoyed were golf and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose M. McBeth Herr, three children, William J. Herr, of San Diego, CA, Amy Herr Devine and husband Stephen, of West Chester, PA, and Michael L. Herr and wife Robin, of Shippensburg, PA, one sister, Jane Superka, of Hagerstown, MD, seven grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. John E. Winckler will officiate. Viewing will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Military services will be conducted by the Shippensburg VFW and American Legion Posts.
