Lester J. Whitmer, 91, formerly of 155 Whitmer Road, Shippensburg, died Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 12:55 p.m. in the Shippensburg Health Care Center, where he had been a resident since December 2003.
Born October 22, 1920 in Southampton Township, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late John B. and Margaret Hippensteel Whitmer.
Early in life he worked at the Peerless Furniture Company, Letterkenny Army Depot, and was a Supervisor in Southampton Township, Cumberland County. He was a school bus driver for 20 years. Lester enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Hub City Club and the Minnequa Social Club both in Shippensburg. Lester was a Protestant.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and a nephew.
Surviving are his nephews, Michael Whitmer of Walnut Bottom, Jack Goodhart of Chambersburg, Glynn Walker of St. Thomas, and a niece, Glynette Walker Kepner of Edenville.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg with The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton officiating. Burial will be private. There will be no viewing however a visitation will be held one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.
