Lester E. “Tom” Walker, 90, of Walnut Bottom, PA, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019, in the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born March 31, 1929, in Hockersville, PA. Tom was a son of the late Harvey and Ethel Newcomer Walker.
He attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Walnut Bottom. Tom retired from the former Duplex Products in Mechanicsburg, where he was a pressman. Years ago he worked at the Beistle Company in Shippensburg. Tom was a graduate of the Carlisle High School and a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed woodworking, including making stringed instruments, which he enjoyed playing. Tom also enjoyed interacting with the local Mennonite community.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Carolyn” Goodhart Walker, whom he married September 26, 1953. She passed away on May 29, 2014. Two brothers, Sylvester “Pete” and Harold Walker, and a sister, Viola Shumaker, are also deceased.
He is survived by six children, Patrick K. (Terry) Walker of Carlisle, Jennifer L. Hande of Camp Hill, Mary E. (Robert) Henry of Walnut Bottom, Lucinda M. (Robert) Dobler of Chambersburg, William H. Walker and his companion, Susan Zullinger of Newville, and Benjamin L. (Rosemary) Walker, of Walnut Bottom; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, one step-great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Monday, September 30, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the Rehoboth Cemetery, Walnut Bottom. There will be no viewing or visitation.
