Lester Eugene Funk, 82, of Newville, departed this life on the morning of Saturday, September 9, 2023, at UPMC Carlisle Hospital.
He was born on December 7, 1940, the son of the late Eldon E. and Margaret A. (Wheeler) Funk. Lester was a 1958 graduate of Big Spring High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He married Lisa D. Strayer on November 7, 2007, in Hawaii.
Lester was the former owner of Funks Drilling and Water Treatment, that he passed on and is now owned and operated by his sons. Aside from the drilling business Lester was the current owner of Funk Manufacturing/Up-Z-Dazy, Newburg, which is a manufacturer of well pump pullers.
Lester was a member of the Big Spring Masonic Lodge #361, F. & A.M., Newville. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and skiing. Lester loved the west and enjoyed taking trips to Jackson Hole, WY and also to his home in Florida. He was well known to have such a great sense of humor and was such a sharing and giving person throughout his life.
In addition to his wife of sixteen years, Lisa, he is survived by three sons, David A. Funk and wife Dena of Barto, PA, Brian E. Funk and wife Kristen of Newville, and Eric C. Funk and companion Karla J. Dechene of Newville; step-sons, Ryan L. Gutshall and wife Kelly Anderson of Chambersburg, and Dwayne D. Gutshall of Shippensburg; grandson, Cam Gutshall U.S.A.F, stationed in Jordan; four granddaughters, Maisy Funk of Barto, PA, Kayley Gutshall of Wilmington, NC, Lillian Gutshall of Chambersburg, and Lydia Gutshall of Chambersburg; two sisters, Vonnie Heishman and husband Gary of Carlisle and Mary Ann Gift and husband Daniel of Middleburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents.
His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or funeral service. Interment will also be private.
