Leslie Dubbs

Leslie C. Dubbs, 83 of Shippensburg, died Friday, July 16, 2010 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born January 2, 1927 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Charles and Verna Cover Dubbs.

He was a retired fruit and vegetable inspector for the State of Pennsylvania and owned and operated the former Dubbs’ Grocery in Orrstown with his wife Anna Mae. Leslie was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, and the Vigilant Hose Company, all in Shippensburg. He was also a member of the Mercersburg VFW Post # 655, Shippensburg Town Band, Shippensburg Fish & Game Association, Patriotic Sons of America, National Rifle Association, and the Junior Hose Company in Chambersburg. Leslie was a graduate of Shippensburg High School and for years he was a drummer for the Mary Howe Orchestra.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anna Mae Straley Dubbs who died January 12, 1988.

Leslie is survived by four sons; James B. Dubbs and his wife Alice of Orrstown, Gerald L. Dubbs of Shippensburg, Michael A. Dubbs of Lurgan, and Randall S. Dubbs and his wife Karen of Spring Run, one daughter, Linda K. Reese and her husband Cyrus of Waynesboro, one brother, C. Larry Dubbs of Shippensburg, five sisters; Delores Fisher, Janet Reed, Donna Hutchison, Sharon Mowery, and Carol Shetter all of Shippensburg, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Kevin E. Hughes. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion and VFW Posts will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday morning one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah United Methodist Church, 30 South Penn Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
