Laura “Kay” Hawk, 85, of Shippensburg, formerly of Kittanning, PA, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Tuesday, July 6, 1937 in Armstrong County, PA. Kay was a daughter of the late Benjamin S., Jr. and Marybelle (Claypoole) Hawk.
She was a longtime member of the Worthington Baptist Church and most recently a member of the Chambersburg Christian Missionary Alliance Church. Kay was a 1955 graduate of Kittanning High School and a 1959 graduate of Bob Jones University where she earned a B.S. in Science Education. Kay taught at Bob Jones University and Academy in Greenville, SC. She also taught and was the principal of Harrisburg Christian Academy, principal of ACE School in Worthington, PA and was the tax collector for East Franklin Township in Armstrong County. For 40 years, beginning at the age of 13, she worked for Camp Lou San Bible Camp. She devoted her life to serving her Savior Jesus Christ, so others could know Him. Her greatest prayer was that her family, who she loved passionately, all knew the Lord and would join her in heaven one day.
Kay is survived by one sister, Mary Virginia Buchanan and her husband J. Richard of Shippensburg and nine nieces and nephews that she treasured as her own children. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Rita Lou Carroll and her husband Donald.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Chambersburg Christian Missionary Alliance Church with Pastor Jeff McCracken and Rev. Bill Haken officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Worthington Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Basham officiating. Burial will be at Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Lou San Bible Camp, 2200 Blue Mt. Parkway, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
