Larry Wayne George, 74, of Newburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Gardens at Gettysburg.
He was born on May 19, 1950, in Chambersburg, the son of the late Clayton and Jean (McNamee) George. Larry was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting on August 15, 1968, and honorably discharged on July 20, 1971. He married Linda L. Stevick on August 15, 1970.
Larry worked at the New Cumberland Army Depot for 25 years, retiring in 2000. After retiring, he then worked at Gander Mountain as an archery tech.
In his free time Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, genealogy, computers, and civil war history. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his large family, especially his many grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Linda, he is survived by his daughter, Carrie Ann Miller and husband Dave of Newburg; his son, Anthony W. George of McMinnville, OR; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Miller of Shippensburg, Samantha Miller of New York, Harley Miller, Joshua Miller, Alanna Miller, Jason Miller, Emily Miller, Cameron Miller, and Colton Miller, all of Newburg, Rebecca Leib of Abbottstown, PA, Savannah Rudd and husband Jared of Walnut Bottom, and Mikayla George of Hillsboro, OR; three great-grandsons, Braxley Rudd, Brooks Rudd, and Gunnar Rudd; his sister, Deb Poper and husband Ken; several nephews and nieces; honorary son, Chris Barton; and beloved cousin, Tammy George.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Interment with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., in the Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
