Larry D. Burkholder, Sr., 63, of Newville, died on the morning of Friday, May 8, 2015, at his home.
He was born on February 7, 1952, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Coyle and Gertrude G. Elswick Burkholder.
Coming from a family of professional Truck Drivers, Larry got behind the wheel as soon as he was allowed to, and drove truck for over thirty years. Ironically, while living in Pittsburgh, he got his start driving for John Walters Trucking, of Newville, and eventually ended up moving here in 1979. Larry then started driving for New Penn Motor Express, Camp Hill, until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of the Teamsters Union #776, for twenty five years.
His work was a large part of his life, but Larry always made time to spend with his family, especially after he retired.
He is survived by his daughter, Christina M. Darr of Newville; his son, Larry D. Burkholder, Jr., of Newville; the mother of his children, Judith M. Burkholder of Carlisle; two sisters, Nancy R. Grissinger of Shippensburg and Deborah K. Brunner of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Barry R. Burkholder of Slippery Rock and James L. Burkholder of Shippensburg; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle, by whom he was thought of as a son, Harry and Mildred Foltz.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. W. Stanley Darrah will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. Viewing will be on Saturday afternoon, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newville Bible Methodist Church at 62 West Main Street Newville, PA 17241.
