L. Long

June 22, 1917 — September 23, 2016

L. Kathryn Long, 99, a resident of Shook Home, Chambersburg, departed this life on the evening of Friday, September 23, 2016.

She was born June 22, 1917, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late James Garfield and Lilly Mae Wagner Watson and was a 1935 graduate of Shippensburg High School. Kathryn married J. Kenneth Long, Sr. on September 30, 1938, at the Market St. Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2007.

Kathryn was a homemaker throughout her life. You seldom saw her without some kind of work in her hands. She was an excellent seamstress who also did crocheting, tatting, quilting, and other crafts. She made much of her families’ clothing and things for around the home. If she saw a pattern or sewing technique she liked, she would make it. She worked alongside her husband, crafting things from wood. Ken would construct them, Kathryn would paint them. She was a wonderful cook using crops from their large garden, much of which she preserved for later as well.

Kathryn was a very active lifelong member of the Shippensburg First Church of God. She was in charge of the primary department, Vacation Bible School, and youth group activities for many years.

Kathryn is survived by her three daughters, Mary Ann Fogelsanger and Dorothy J. (Mick) Martin, both of Shippensburg; Linda K. (Edward) Rosenberry of Carlisle; and a daughter-in-law, Twila Long of Newville; nine grandchildren, Scott Fogelsanger, Candy Perkinson, Kathy Stouffer, Andrew Martin, J. Daniel, Elizabeth, Caroline, Christina, and Emily Rosenberry; six great grandchildren, Zachary and Karli Fogelsanger, Kyla and Noah Perkinson, Jacob Stouffer, and Penny Moyle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, J. Kenneth Long, Jr., one sister, and three brothers.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Edward L. Rosenberry, her son-in-law, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Cultural Ministries, Churches of God, General Conference, 700 East Melrose Avenue, Findlay, OH 45840.
