Kenneth E. “Kenny” Shoemaker, 75, left this life peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 2, 2014 as he entered eternal rest with his Lord.
Born February 9, 1939 in Amberson, he was the son of the late Ellis Eugene and Anna Mary Leab Shoemaker.
Kenny was a United States Army Veteran serving in Thailand during the Vietnam War; he was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY where he worked as a truck driver.
He retired in 1977 from Letterkenny Army Depot as a Machinist and later drove truck for Jerr-Dan Trucking in Greencastle with 16 years of service.
He was a member of the Laurel Grove United Methodist Church, Spring Run and the American Legion Post # 232 Dry Run. He was an avid NASCAR Fan and loved hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years Molly A. Myers Shoemaker whom he married December 30, 1962; one son Roger K. Shoemaker and his wife Lesle,y and one daughter, Sandra Umbrell and her husband Kris all of Spring Run; one granddaughter, Ashley Umbrell Seburn and her husband Stanley; three grandsons, Brandon Shoemaker and his wife Tia, Lance Umbrell, and Dustin Shoemaker and companion Samantha Buriss; two great grandsons, Kayden Umbrell and Ford Seburn; and one great granddaughter, Sophia Shoemaker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., with Pastor DeAnn L. Newhouse and the Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil officiating. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Dry Run American Legion Post # 232 Honor Guard. A visitation will be held 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
