Kenneth Eugene Rhodes

Kenneth Eugene “Gene” Rhodes, 85, of Shippensburg, passed away the morning of Friday, April 25, 2025 at Celebration Villa of Shippensburg.

He was born on March 25, 1940 in Watts Township, Perry County, a son of the late Reuben Edward and Dorothy Viola Wright Rhodes, Sr. He married Betty Ann Halter on December 24, 1966.

Gene was a member of the Oakville United Methodist Church and served in the United States National Guard. He was also a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168, and Hub City Club. Gene was employed as a superintendent for the Harnden Group in Harrisburg.

In Gene’s free time, he enjoyed line dancing, going for walks, and was an avid sports fan. He previously volunteered as an umpire for Little League Softball. Gene enjoyed taking care of people, especially his neighbors, and took great pride in his lawn.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Betty Ann Rhodes of Shippensburg, he is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Ann (Shawn) Adams of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Morgan M. Adams and Shane T. Adams, both of Lancaster; one sister, Reita (John) Wilson of Enola; three brothers, Paul (Judy) Rhodes of Harrisburg, Larry Rhodes of Baltimore, MD, and Mike Rhodes of Reading; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Reuben E. Rhodes, Jr; and one sister, Helen Miller.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg with Pastor Bruce Levy officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
