Kenneth R. “Kenny” Messinger, Jr., 72, of Shippensburg and formerly of East Berlin, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2017 at York Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born Thursday, April 5, 1945 in East Berlin, he was a son of the late Kenneth R. and Dolly Mae Eisenhart Messinger, Sr.
Kenneth was a faithful member of the Shippensburg Independent Baptist Church and loved his church family. He was presently employed at Green Ridge Village in Newville, where he worked in the maintenance department with 24 years of service. He was a former employee of Bowen-McLaughlin of York with 25 years of service.
He was an avid hunter and also enjoyed fishing. Kenny loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Marie Myers Messinger, whom he married August 1, 1964; one son, Steven L. (wife Mi Hui) Messinger, Shippensburg; two daughters, Susan M. Mahoney, Newville, and E’Loise A. Jumper, Shippensburg; six grandsons, Kenneth L., Johnathon R., (wife Abigail), and David J. Messinger, Dalton Fearnbaugh, and Dylan and Noah Jumper; one granddaughter, Courtney M. (husband Ronald) Farner; one great grandson, Ian Farner; one brother, Marlin E. “Mike” (wife Brenda) Messinger, Dover; three sisters, Connie L. Fuhrman, Manchester, Barbara J. Williams, and Sherry L. (husband Timothy) Weir, both of East Berlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Eugene Messinger, and a sister Darlene L. Buhrman.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Shippensburg Independent Baptist Church with Pastor Kenneth Waggoner, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Suburban Memorial Park. A viewing will be held Friday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the church.
