Kenneth Garman

February 16, 1927 — January 29, 2018

Kenneth G. Garman, 90, of Newburg, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at home.

He was born February 16, 1927 in Carlisle, PA. Ken was a son of the late George A. and Ruth W. Heberlig Garman.

He retired in 1988 from PennDOT where he was a Bridge Foreman. Ken was a member of the Roxbury United Methodist Church, Orrstown Lodge #262 F&A.M., Valley Forest #145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistory, and the Shippensburg Scottish Rite Club. He also was a Charter Member of the Lurgan Township Lions Club where he was presented the Melvin Jones Award. Ken was a United States Navy Veteran during WWII and was a member of both the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168 and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg. Ken and his wife owned and operated the Blue Mountain Roller Rink in Roxbury from 1948 until 1986.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae “Pete” Shope Garman. A sister, Martha Butterfield and a brother, Donald Garman are also deceased.

Ken is survived by one son, Kent D. Garman and his wife Kelly; two granddaughters, Kristen A. and Kaylea A. Garman; and one brother, Wayne S. Garman, all of Newburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg. Officiating will be The Rev. John A. Ile, Jr. Burial with military honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 will be in the Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m.
