Kenneth L. Bender, 69, of Fish Hatchery Road, Shippensburg, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 at his home.
Born Sunday, July 1, 1945 in Gettysburg, Adams County, he was a son of Anna Marie Unger Bender of Chambersburg and the late Crawford L. Bender.
Kenneth was a 1964 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, and a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church where he taught the Progressive Sunday School Class for over 40 years, and served as Lay Leader and Trustee.
He retired in 2006 from Mack Truck in Hagerstown, MD after 30 years of service. He also worked for Domestic Pump for over four years and owned and operated Bender Built Construction for over nine years, both in Shippensburg.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce E. Swartz Bender, two sons, Randal S. (wife Debra) Bender of Shippensburg, Andrew L. (wife Alana) Bender of Boiling Springs, one foster daughter, Sharon Graham (husband Garry) Adams of Shippensburg, one sister, Nancy Shannon of Newburg, three brothers, Gary Bender of Newburg, Alan Bender of Bluffton, SC, and Donald Bender of Lemoyne, six grandchildren, two foster grandchildren and one great grandson.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a foster granddaughter, Laurie Michelle Adams.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve P. Salisbury officiating. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Sunday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., and one hour prior to the service in the church on Monday.
