Kathryn Varner

June 14, 1926 — July 2, 2012

Kathryn M. Varner, 86, of Newburg, died on the afternoon of Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born on June 14, 1926, a daughter of the late John and Ardella Laughman Nearons.

Kathryn retired from the former Newville Shoe Co., and was also previously employed at the former Penn Pants, Shippensburg, and also Knouse Foods, Peach Glenn.

She attended the Newburg United Methodist Church; enjoyed crocheting and embroidery, cooking and making candy (especially chocolate covered cherries), playing B.I.N.G.O., and watching her soap operas.

Kathryn is survived by three daughters, Peggy M. (Wayne) Hensel of Newburg, Joyce A. (David) Staver of Shippensburg, and Deb A. (Rodney) Stouffer of Shippensburg; two sons, Ronald L. (Barb) Varner Newburg and Gerald E. (Evelyn) Varner, Sr. of Newville; five brothers, Penrose Nearons of Florida, Howard Allen of Chambersburg, Harry Allen of Shippensburg, Robert Allen of Newville, and Leroy Allen of Shippensburg; one sister, Carrie Pomeroy of Shippensburg; twelve grandchildren; many great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet E. Varner; two brothers, Galen Allen and John Nearons, and an infant sister.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. John A. Ile, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
