K. LeRoy Hockenberry, 83, of Shippensburg, went home to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on the afternoon of Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on November 9, 1932, in Newburg, a son of the late John and Carrie Henderson Hockenberry. LeRoy was a 1952 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School and an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army. Stationed in Germany during the Korean War, LeRoy served as a Military Policeman and driver for senior officers. Upon his discharge he married Janet L. Ocker on November 10, 1956, at the Hagerstown First Church of God.
LeRoy was a tank milk truck driver for forty years, retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Newburg First Church of God since 1973. LeRoy’s main focuses were his work and family.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 59 years, Janet; two sons, Jeff (Kris) Hockenberry of Shippensburg and Randy (Toni) Hockenberry of Newburg; three grandchildren, Nickie, Eric, and Heather; four great grandchildren; one brother, John Hockenberry; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, LeRoy was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Hockenberry and three sisters, Mary Hockenberry, Peg Varner, and Anna Gipe.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at the Newburg First Church of God, and will be officiated by Pastor Dale H. Miller, Jr. Interment, with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. The viewing will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newburg First Church of God at 260 Newburg Road, Newburg, PA 17240.
