Joyce D. Yocum, 77, 514 N. Earl St., Shippensburg, died at home on Saturday, March 16, 2024 after a courageous three-year battle against ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Born on March 3, 1947 in Shippensburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur C. “Doc” Wyrick and Edna P. Wyrick.
Joyce graduated from SASHS in 1965. While she and her husband Bob raised their two sons, she did clerical work at Squires Appliances, Carlisle Barricks PX, and then spent 30 years working at Shippensburg University, retiring in 2007. At S.U., she worked in the Fiscal Office, Dept. of Criminal Justice, Ezra Lehman Memorial Library, Dept. of Education Administration, and the John L. Grove College of Business Academic Support Staff.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert D. Yocum; two sons, Greg S. (Karin) Yocum of Doral, FL and Ryan D. Yocum of Miami Beach, FL; one brother, Wilbur C. “Web” Wyrick of Ellenton, FL; half-sibling, Jim D. (Deb) Burkholder of Shippensburg; half-sibling, Carol (Dean) Roberts of Chambersburg; and two grandchildren, Chase and Reece Yocum of Doral, FL.
The family wishes to thank Homeland at Home Hospice Harrisburg and Penn State Hershey Medical Center ALS Clinic and Research Center for the professional care and compassion they showed to them, and to Joyce.
