Joyce Elaine Clough, 71, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Monday, July 5, 2021, at the WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born on March 6, 1950, in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late Harold “Skinny” and Dorothy (Keefer) Clough. Joyce went on to attend Shippensburg University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in 1973, and a Master’s degree in education in 1977.
Joyce had a long and rewarding thirty-seven year career in education. She started teaching in elementary school, but retired from the Chambersburg Area Middle School.
Joyce enjoyed traveling in her younger years and doing cross stitch during her free time in her later years. Although, her greatest joy in life were her cats, as they were always her main priority. Joyce also maintained long-term close friendships, such as with Nancy Chamberlin, whom she’s known since junior high school. Joyce and Nancy would help one another in looking after their cats, and were known to go to the movie theater every Saturday. Joyce also liked spending time with friends Nancy Glen, Carol McCoy, and Joanne Mummert to name a few and always spent every Sunday and most holidays enjoying time with her family at her nephew’s home.
She is survived by one brother, George Clough and wife Sandy of Shippensburg; two nephews, William Clough and wife Denise of Biglerville and Michael Clough and wife Elizabeth of Shippensburg; one niece, Pam Inge and husband John of Shippensburg; great nephew and niece, Brett and Brianne Clough; and many close friends.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Clough and one nephew, Brian Clough.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Interment will follow in the Mongul Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the funeral home.
