Joseph Thrush

Joseph L. “Joe” Thrush, Sr., 63, of Newburg, departed this life on the evening of Monday, October 16, 2017, at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center.

He was born on August 7, 1954, in Chambersburg, a son of the late Wayne and Martha Mellott Thrush. Joe was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, enlisting on February 5, 1973 and honorably discharged on March 18, 1977. He married Doreen J. Bowers on September 6, 2003, at their home. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2016.

Joe worked as a machinist at the former Ingersoll-Rand, now Volvo, for twenty-nine years, retiring in 2015. He enjoyed working on and around his property, cutting wood, hunting, taking his grandchildren on tractor rides, and simply spending time with his family.

He is survived by six daughters, Amanda Wright of California, Tabitha L. Foust of Gloucester, VA, Melody Jaramillo of Memphis, TN, Nichole R. (Michael) Short of Shippensburg, Vanessa R. (Zachary) Green of Newville, Stephanie G. Foust of Shippensburg; one son, Joseph L. (Adrianne) Thrush, Jr., of Shippensburg; seventeen grandchildren, Cody, Evan, Breawna, Tigan, Tristan, Orchid, Amethyst, Adrianna, Isaiah, Memphis, Kylie, Nicholas, Andrew, Emmy, Lorali, Maylesha, and Shavontae; three brothers, Richard Thrush of Shippensburg, William Thrush of Newville, and Robert Thrush of Carlisle; one sister, Cathryn Worthington of Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by seven siblings.

His memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Philip E. Steele will officiate, followed by military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council. Interment will be private. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Summit Cancer Center & Hematology Services at 755 Norland Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
