John M. Wadel, 87, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Home, formerly of White Church Road, Shippensburg, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 in the home.
He was born February 11, 1931 in Newburg, PA. John was a son of the late William P. and Anna P. Shriner Wadel.
He was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg. John loved hard work. He drove a bread route for Henry’s Bakery, then began his career as a dairy farmer. In his spare-time he enjoyed keeping his hands busy renting campers, starting Wadel’s Mobile Home Park and running a septic tank truck. He raised Dachshund puppies for almost 60 years. John was a proud founding member of the Tanglewood Hunting Camp for 67 years. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and most of all spending time with family.
John is survived by two sons, J. Robert Wadel and his wife Diana and Jerry S. Wadel and his wife Genny, one daughter, Jeanne E. Helm and her husband Robert all of Shippensburg, five grandchildren, Steven A. Wadel, Julie S. Boothe, Jason L. Wadel, Joshua S. Wadel and Joshua W. Helm, eleven great grandchildren, one sister Anna Mary Weaver of Shippensburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife whom he married June 18, 1949, Edna M. Derr Wadel who passed away June 29, 2004. Five brothers and four sisters are also deceased.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in the Prince Street United Brethren Church at 10 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. James O. Bolich. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg.
