John B. “Sonny” Tritt, Jr., 75, of Shippensburg passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Wellspan York Hospital.
Born Friday, August 31, 1945 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late John B. and Blanche E. Piper Tritt, Sr.
Sonny was a 1963 graduate of the Big Spring High School. He was a United States Army Reserve Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Sonny was the former owner/operator of Tritt Plumbing & Heating and later worked for Greencastle Livestock.
He was a member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, The Hub City Social Club, the Orrstown Lodge #262 Free & Accepted Masons, where he was a past Master, Valley Forest # 145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, all in Shippensburg; the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #1299, and the Amvets Post # 274, both in Carlisle; and the Shippensburg Fish & Game Club. He was an avid hunter and woodworker who loved his family and friends and lived his life to the fullest.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Lavonne Marie (Lytle) Tritt whom he married April 17, 1965; one son, John “Rob” (Tammy) Tritt, Newville; one sister, Jean E. Wenger, Shippensburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Wendy S. Tritt.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shippensburg Fish and Game Association, 4498 Maclays Mill Road, Shippensburg. A Masonic service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor William Wenger and Pastor Gary Hornbaker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orrstown Lodge #262 F. & A.M., 41 Stewart Place, Shippensburg, PA 17257 or Shippensburg Fish & Game Association, 4498 Maclays Mill Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
