John Swieczkowski

October 23, 1940 — June 17, 2015

John A. Swieczkowski, Sr., 74, of Shippensburg, died on the morning of Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at his home.

He was born on October 23, 1940, in Latrobe, a son of the late Joseph Anthony and Catherine Margaret Uhring Swieczkowski and married Ms. Gloria A. Orazio on June 30, 1962, in Derry, PA.

John was a self-employed painter, but for a period of time he was in charge of the paint and wallpaper crew at the former Greater Southeast Community Hospital, Washington D.C., and retired in June of 2000.

He was a member of the Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg and its Knights of Columbus Council #12551. In his younger years John enjoyed hunting, but preferred to fish and golf as he got older.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria; one son, John A. (Pamela) Swieczkowski, Jr. of Ft. Washington, MD; his daughter, Denise M. (Eric) Mrozek of Fishertown; four grandchildren, Eric and Matthew Mrozek and Andrew and Jennifer Swieczkowski; four great granddaughters; six siblings, Joan Curl, Joseph (Nancy) Swick, Mary Lou Daughenbaugh, Kathy (Matt) Roble, Myra (Al) Bader, and Melissa Stahl; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one son, Stephen M. Swieczkowski; one sister, Nancy Vrba; and one brother, Michael Swieczkowski.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, June, 20, 2015, at the Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church. Father Dwight Schlaline will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or the Children’s Miracle Network at Penn State Hershey at 600 Centerview Lane Hummelstown, PA 17036.
