John Rothrock

John Alfred Rothrock, Jr., 82, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
He was born on May 17, 1936, in Middletown, PA, the son of the late John A. and Helen M. Burger Rothrock.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, enlisting on July 19, 1955 and honorably discharged on July 18, 1959. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard.
John worked at the former Olmstead Air Force Base, Harrisburg, in his younger years. He eventually came to work as a Calibrator, at the Letterkenny Army Depot, for thirty-six years, retiring in 1993.
In his free time, John enjoyed golfing and photography. He was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Minnequa Social Club # 375, and the Loyal Order of Moose #2500, all of Shippensburg; a life member of the Amvets Post #224 and the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, both of Chambersburg; and a member of NARFE #1063.
John is survived by his ex-wife, with whom he remained friends, Elaine A. Rothrock of Shippensburg; two daughters, Robin S. Richmond and husband Mark of Greencastle and Heather L. Rothrock of Shippensburg, two grandchildren Tiffany Downin and Kyle Richmond both of Greencastle; and two great grandchildren, Kenley and Finn Downin.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 17, 2019, in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Remembrance Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599 at 747 South 4th Street Chambersburg, PA 17201.
