John G. Pharo, 71, of Shippensburg, died Sunday, October 27, 2013 at home.
He was born May 5, 1942 in Quincy, Franklin County, PA. John was a son of the late John G. and Louise V. Haugh Pharo.
He was the owner and operator of the former Pharo’s Truck Stop in Shippensburg. Many years ago John was a self employed over the road truck driver and then went on to work for Consolidated Freight. In the early 90’s he owned a Busch Grand National Car that was on the circuit. John was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg and the Cumberland Valley Corvette Club. He was a United States Navy Veteran.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Pharo.
John is survived by one son, John G. Pharo, II of Shippensburg, one daughter, Tammy M. Sprecher and her husband Steven of Newburg, two stepsons, Dennis and Rick Martin both of North Carolina, one granddaughter, Alyse N. Gutshall of Newburg, two step grandsons, Shawn Martin of California and Chad Martin of North Carolina, one sister, Henrietta M. Pharo of Chambersburg, two nephews, George Pharo of Shippensburg and Joe Pharo of Pleasant Hall.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Mary Jane King. Military services will be conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion and VFW Posts. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
