John William Miller, 83, of Shippensburg, and formerly of Newville, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Monday, October 7, 1935 in Oakville, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Earl William and Mabel C. Heffelfinger Miller.
John was born and raised on the family farm in Newville.
John was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He worked for the Carpenter’s Union, and retired in 1997 from Novinger’s Inc. in Harrisburg, and later was employed by the Big Spring School District’s outdoor maintenance department.
He was a member of the Drifters Car Club, Newville, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Lightfoot Miller whom he married on June 30, 1956; two sons, Craig W. (wife Christina) Miller, Abbott, TX, and Trent M. (wife Stephanie) Miller, Newville; two grandsons, Lane William Miller, Abbott, TX, and Ty Robert Miller, Newville; one granddaughter, Taylor Elaine Miller, Newville; and two sisters, Millie Wood, Newville, and Martha Jane Earnest, Shippensburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with the Rev. Vern Gauthier officiating. Burial will be private. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Military Honors will be conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion Post # 223 Minutemen immediately following the service.
