John Kenneth McCrae, 96, a resident of Elmcroft of Shippensburg, formerly of Scenic Drive, Shippensburg, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 14, 2010.
Born August 27, 1914 in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Jesse Douglas and Mary Biesecker McCrae.
He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Shippensburg and retired from Letterkenny Army Depot. Mr. McCrae was a member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge # 315 F. & A.M., Harrisburg Consistory, Shippensburg Scottish Rite Club, Valley Forest # 145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and Washington Camp # 645 P.O.S. of A. He was a life member of L.S.L. Sportmen’s Association, Orrstown and the Vigilant Hose Company # 1, Shippensburg.
He was a United States Army Air Corp veteran of World War II and a 1933 graduate of Shippensburg High School. Mr. McCrae enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy June Pomeroy McCrae who died August 28, 2010, five brothers and two sisters are also deceased.
He is survived by two daughters; Deborah J. Anker of Hanover, and Christine L. Haines and her husband Ivan of Strasburg, four grandchildren; Adam Anker of San Diego, CA, Erin Anker of Hanover, Kierstin and Devin Haines both of Strasburg, and one brother, Leroy McCrae of Greencastle.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 2 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Kiser. Burial with military services conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion and VFW Posts will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The viewing will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home with Masonic Services at 7:30 p.m.
