John Koser

September 13, 1926 — January 9, 2024

John C. Koser, 97, of Chambersburg, passed from this life to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior on January 9, 2024. John was a resident at Paramount Senior Living in Fayetteville and was originally from Shippensburg and later lived at Chambers Pointe in Chambersburg.

John was born September 13, 1926 in Shippensburg to the late Clark and Mabel Koser. John was preceded in death by Vera, his loving wife of 75 years, in April 2021. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Catherine Clippinger, and one grandson.

He is survived by three sons: Gary (Jane) of Fayetteville, PA; Alan (Kimberly) of Valencia, PA; and Mark (Cindy) who is overseas. He was also dearly loved as “Pop Pop” to five grandchildren: Tracy (Lance) Walker of Chambersburg; John Tyler (Tina) Koser of Phoenix, AZ; Allison Koser of Pittsburgh, PA; Rebecca (Joshua) Eisenhardt of Winter Garden, FL; and Joshua Koser who is overseas. He will also be missed by great-grandchildren Darra, Nathan, Kierran, Jackson, Charlotte and River, and a number of nieces and nephews.

John enlisted in the Air Force Aviation Cadet Program in December 1943 and reported for duty upon graduation from the Shippensburg Area High School in June 1944. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, including overseas service during the post-war occupation of Germany.

John spent his professional career as a communications specialist and supervisor at Letterkenny Army Depot for 35 years, retiring in 1985. Following retirement, he drove a school bus for the Shippensburg Area School District for ten years.

John was an active church member and served in various capacities during his life in the Church of God in Shippensburg and Greenvillage, including as a Sunday School teacher. He also served in various volunteer capacities during his residence at Chambers Pointe. His hobbies included photography, genealogy, personal computer projects, and the Shippensburg Historical Society, and he especially enjoyed gospel music.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family; interment will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenvillage Church of God, Greenvillage PA.
