John “Jack” Allan McCrae, 75, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the Penn State Health M.S. Hershey Medical Center.
He was born on February 1, 1946, in Roxbury, the son of the late James A. and M. Winifred (McKee) McCrae. Jack was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting on October 24, 1967, and honorably discharged on October 20, 1970. He married Ann E. Straley on April 22, 1972, in Shippensburg.
Jack worked as a sales representative in several different industries. He had a very outgoing and extroverted personality which served him well throughout his career. Jack attended the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg.
In his free time, Jack liked gardening around his home. He was an animal lover and tended to his own “herd” of cats. Jack was a sports fan, rooting for the Philadelphia Phillies and Penn State football and basketball. He loved spending time with his friends and families, and especially adored his grandson, Zack.
In addition to his wife of forty-nine years, Ann, he is survived by his son, Mark A. McCrae and wife Tammy of Harrisburg; his grandson, Zachary A. McCrae of Harrisburg; one aunt, Gladys McCrae of Chambersburg; numerous cousins; and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Pamela J. Carnes will officiate. Military honors will follow, conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.
