John Ferry

John M. Ferry, Sr., 68, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Sunday, February 7, 2016.

He was born on July 9, 1947, in Detroit, MI, a son of the late Joseph and Esther Rae Green Ferry. John was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting on December 27, 1967 and honorably discharged on December 15, 1970.

John was employed at P.P. & G. Industries, Carlisle, where he worked for twenty years. He then drove truck for Food Lion, for seventeen years, retiring in 2011.

He was a member of both the Durf-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168 and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg. In his free time, John liked to fish and play BINGO and scratch-off lottery tickets. He was a history buff, had a very nice coin collection, was known to be a “slow traveler”, and had a wonderful sense of humor.

John is survived by four children, Bobbie (Ron) Paul of Kingsport, TN, John M. Ferry, Jr. of Shippensburg, Stacey Ferry of Shippensburg, and Amanda Kauffman of Shippensburg; seventeen grandchildren, Brandon and Joshua Paul, Samantha Evans, Brian Clouse, Allen and Shania Ferry, Chasity and Chance Johnson, Chavannah Sipes, Vincent, Geatano, and Vennessa Bartolomeo, Cheyanne Kauffman, Will and Lucas Kribel, and Seth and Zac Clifford; nine great grandchildren; five siblings, Carol Bowermaster, Donna Ferry, Sharon Rohm, Phillip Ferry, and Mary (Don) Black (also John’s best friend) of Shippensburg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Rohm.

His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, February 12, 2016, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor J.R. Wells will officiate. Military honors, conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will immediately follow the service. Interment will be private. Viewing will occur afterward, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
